We’ve removed the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale to deliver faster and safer journey times by building new rail bridges. The new premium Mordialloc Station opened on Thursday 21 May.

What we’re doing

Over the coming months, we will continue with finishing works across the new station precinct, including new walking and cycling paths and extensive landscaping.

During this time, we’ll:

  • restore roads and kerbs, remove barriers and finish fencing works
  • deliver enhancements to McDonald Street
  • complete landscaping at Mordialloc and Aspendale
  • upgrade and build new parking, including:
    • completing rail passenger parking at Mordialloc Station
    • new parking on Albert Street, Mordialloc
    • 30 new parking spaces and a turning circle at the end of Station Street, Aspendale.

We’ll make every effort to complete these works on schedule; however, dates are subject to change.

What to expect

  • Changes to pedestrian access, including minor detours, while footpaths and shared user paths are completed.
  • Lane and road closures on Albert Street, Nepean Highway, Station Street, the new Pine Crescent link road, McDonald Street and Bear Street. See table below for more information.
  • Temporary utility service interruptions may occur. Utility providers will notify affected customers directly.

Our usual working hours at this stage of construction are Monday to Sunday, 7am to 7pm.

Upcoming night works

To complete essential works within the rail corridor, we are working nights between Como Parade West, Parkdale and Eulinga Avenue Aspendale from Friday 14 August to Sunday 16 August.

Until late 2026, we’ll resurface roads during nights to reduce impacts to traffic. Please see the table below for further information on these works.

Additional night works may be required within the rail corridor between McDonald Street and the rail overpass during July and August. We will notify affected resident ahead of any works.

Nepean Highway traffic

One southbound lane on Nepean Highway between Kiandra Close and Parana Street will remain closed until the end of July. This is so we can safely complete kerb, asphalt and landscaping works at the former Station Street level crossing. During this time, delays are expected. Please plan your journey and avoid travelling in peak times if possible.

Changes to the way you travel

Mordialloc

Road

  • McDonald Street between Nepean Highway/Main Street and Barkly Street:
    • road and lane closures at times during nights in July and August. Dates to be confirmed.
    • lane closures in place at times until late September.
  • Nepean Highway/McDonald Street lane closure on Nepean Highway southbound and McDonald Street westbound at the roundabout during one off-peak dayshift in mid July.
  • Albert Street:
    • road closures between McDonald Street and Lewis Street from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, at times until end August. Resident access only.
    • northbound lane closure between Lewis Street and Ashmore Avenue until September.
    • lane closures between McDonald Street and Bear Street at times until late August.
  • Powlett Street road closure between Albert Street and Barkly Street at times until late August. Local access maintained.
  • Lewis Street road closure between Albert Street and Barkly Street at times until late July. Local access maintained.
  • Park Street/Governor Road lane closures between Lamana Road and Percy Street, and between Chute Street and Bear Street, at times until early July. Local access maintained.
  • Barkly Street
    • lane closures between McDonald Street and Bear Street from mid to late August. Follow signage.
    • lane closures between Main Street and Barkly Street at times until late September. May include nights in August.
  • Main Street (Right-of-way, south of McDonald Street) limited access and delays at times until late September.
  • Access road next to Main Street Café limited access, local trader access only, until late September.
  • Bear Street between Main Street and Barkly Street until late September, including some nights in July and August.

Car parking

  • McDonald Street car park closure at the Men’s Shed car park until August.
  • Pompei’s Landing parking closures until late September.

Pedestrian and cycling

  • McDonald Street between Nepean Highway/Main Street and Barkly Street footpath closures with detours in place at times until late September, including some nights in July and August – dates to be confirmed.
  • Albert Street footpath closures between McDonald Street and Bear Street at times until late August.
  • Bear Street footpath detours between Main Street and Barkly Street at times until late September.
  • Pompei’s Landing restricted access until late September.

Aspendale

Road

  • Nepean Highway:
    • southbound lane closed in sections between Parana Street and Kiandra Close until end of July.
    • lane closures between Parana Street and Watkins Street from Friday 3 July to Monday 6 July, 7pm to 7am.
  • Station Street:
    • closed between the rail line and Attenborough Road near Mordialloc College until late July.
    • lane and road closures with traffic running through one open lane between Attenborough Road and Eulinga Avenue at times until late July. Local/resident access maintained.
  • New Pine Crescent extension lane closures on the link road between Nepean Highway and Station Street at times until late September.
