22 May 2026
We’ve removed the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale to deliver faster and safer journey times by building new rail bridges. The new premium Mordialloc Station opened on Thursday 21 May.
Trains are back and the new premium Mordialloc Station is open, with an entrance at each end to provide easier and convenient access for rail passengers, as well as all-abilities access and improved lighting and upgraded toilets. In Aspendale, cars and pedestrians can now safely travel under the new rail bridge via the new Pine Crescent link road connecting Station Street to Nepean Highway.
What we’re doing
Over the coming months, we will continue with finishing works across the new station precinct, including new walking and cycling paths and extensive landscaping.
During this time, we’ll:
- restore roads and kerbs, remove barriers and finish fencing works
- complete landscaping at Mordialloc and Aspendale, including relocating one palm tree
- upgrade and build new parking, including:
- completing rail passenger parking at Mordialloc Station
- new parking on Albert Street, Mordialloc
- 30 new parking spaces and a turning circle at the end of Station Street, Aspendale.
We’ll make every effort to complete these works on schedule, however dates are subject to change.
What to expect
- Changes to pedestrian pathways with minor detours and short-term, intermittent closures in place while the new shared use path and other footpaths are completed.
- Lane and road closures on Albert Street between Ashmore Avenue and McDonald Street, Mordialloc.
- Lane and short-term road closures on Nepean Highway, Station Street, the new Pine Crescent link road, McDonald Street, and Bear Street – see details below.
There may be temporary utility service interruptions. Utility companies are responsible for notifying customers of any interruptions. Please contact your utility provider if you have any questions.
Night works
Our usual working hours at this stage of construction are Monday to Sunday, 7am to 7pm. We’ll work at night on some local roads (see table below) to complete resurfacing during low-traffic times. Affected residents will be contacted.
Nepean Highway traffic
One southbound lane on Nepean Highway between Kiandra Close and Parana Street will be closed so we can safely complete kerb, asphalt and landscaping works at the former Station Street level crossing. During this time, delays are expected. Please plan your journey and avoid travelling in peak times if possible.
Changes to the way you travel
Please follow signage and detours. Traffic management will be in place during works to safely guide you through the area. For regular updates on disruptions, subscribe to our SMS updates by texting MRD to 0429 839 892 or visit our disruptions map.
