We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges. We've already closed the Bear Street, Mordialloc level crossing and are building a new Mordialloc Station.

What we’re doing

Major construction is continuing throughout November as we continue to build the new rail bridges and Mordialloc Station buildings. During this time, we’ll:

  • build a new footpath next to the stabling yard, which will link into the existing paths at George Woods Reserve and Park Street
  • continue piling, earth and civil works
  • undertake temporary road works to enable oversized deliveries
  • deliver and install large, prefabricated station buildings and materials
  • install underground services at Nepean Highway and Hearle Avenue intersection
  • carry out electrical and signal upgrades, install cables and remove overhead wires in the rail corridor.

We’ll be in touch with directly impacted residents and traders in advance. We’ll make every effort to complete these works on schedule, however dates are subject to change. No works will take place from Saturday 1 November to Wednesday 5 November. Works will resume Thursday 6 November.

What to expect

  • An increase in construction activity, machinery, vehicles and workers.
  • Additional lighting at night near works areas, directed away from residential properties where possible.
  • Noticeable construction noise, dust and vibration near works areas.
  • Intermittent road closures and some delays.

There may be temporary utility service interruptions to properties. Utility companies are responsible for notifying customers of any interruptions. Please contact your utility provider if you have any questions.

Upcoming night works

Within the rail corridor

To complete essential rail bridge works, including installing concrete beams and rail systems, we’ll continue working during the day and night within the rail corridor:

  • Ongoing until 11pm, Friday 31 October: Albert Street, Mordialloc between Lewis Street and Bear Street, and Station Street, Aspendale between Attenborough Road and James Avenue.
  • At times from 7pm, Thursday 6 November to 5pm, Friday 19 December: Albert Street, Mordialloc between Lewis Street and Bear Street, and Station Street, Aspendale between Attenborough Road and James Avenue.

Overnight oversized deliveries

To minimise disruption to daytime traffic, oversized deliveries will be scheduled overnight between 11pm and 5am, Monday to Saturday, on various dates until late December. To enable these deliveries, temporary road works will be carried out along Albert Street, Park Street, Governor Road, McDonald Street and Station Street.

Changes to the way you travel

Please follow signage and detours, traffic management in place during works to help guide motorists and pedestrians.

Mordialloc

McDonald Street

  • Overnight road closures between Main Street Service Road and Albert Street at times between 7pm and 5am, from Thursday 6 November to Friday 19 December.
  • Intermittent lane closures between Albert Street and Nepean Highway/Main Street Service Road until late 2026. Local access maintained.

McDonald Street pedestrian crossing

  • Pedestrian crossing closures at times until late 2026. Please use Bear Street crossing when McDonald Street crossing is closed.

Bear Street pedestrian crossing

  • Pedestrian crossing closed until Friday 31 October, and from Thursday 6 November, opening intermittently until late 2026. Please use McDonald Street crossing when Bear Street crossing is closed.

Albert Street

  • Intermittent road and lane closures between Lewis Street and Bear Street at times until late 2026. Local access maintained
  • Speed advisory and pedestrian signage installed to help safe pedestrian movements until late 2026.

Park Street, next to the stabling yard

  • Northbound lane closure between Albert Street and Governor Road for up to 3 weeks in early November to early December, 9.30am to 3.30pm each day. Local access maintained

Governor Road

  • Northbound lane closure between Lamana Street and Percy Street for up to one week in early November. Local access maintained.

Aspendale

Nepean Highway

  • Intermittent lane and parking closures between Station Street and Kara Grove until late 2026. Traffic management in place.

Hearle Avenue

  • Temporary lane closures and pedestrian access changes and up to 10 on-street parking closures at times throughout November and December. Local access maintained.

Station Street

  • Overnight road closure between Attenborough Road and James Avenue at times between 7pm and 5am each day, from Thursday 6 November to 5pm Friday 19 December.
  • Intermittent road closures between Station Street level crossing and Eulinga Avenue at times until late 2026.
  • Permanent no standing zones in place near intersections. Traffic management in place during works to help guide motorists.

Governor Road

  • Northbound lane closure between Lamana Street and Percy Street for up to one week in early November. Local access maintained.

Rail

  • Buses replace trains on sections of the Frankston Line throughout 2025. Plan ahead at Transport Victoria.
  • Frankston Line services continue to run to an altered timetable until mid 2026. Timetable information is available at Transport Victoria or via passenger information displays at your station.
  • Platform 2 remains closed while we build the new Mordialloc Station. Passengers can access all services from Platform 1 at Mordialloc Station via McDonald Street, Bear Street or Main Street.
