20 August 2025

We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges. We have now also closed the Bear Street level crossing in Mordialloc to vehicles and are building a new Mordialloc Station.

What we’re doing

Major construction is continuing throughout September as we continue to build foundations for the new rail bridges.

During September, we will:

  • continue piling, earth and civil works
  • install new underground services and rail systems in Mordialloc and Aspendale
  • carry out electrical and signal upgrades, install cables and remove overhead wires in the rail corridor.

There may be temporary utility service interruptions to local homes. Utility companies are responsible for notifying customers of any interruptions. Please contact your utility provider if you have any questions.

Upcoming night works

To complete essential piling works, we’ll work during the day and at night in the rail corridor until 6pm, Sunday 14 September between McDonald and Bear streets, Mordialloc.

During this time, you may notice:

  • an increase in construction activity, machinery, vehicles and workers in the area
  • additional lighting at night, directed away from residential properties where possible
  • noticeable construction noise and vibration in the area.

Overnight oversized deliveries

To minimise disruptions to daytime traffic, oversized machinery and materials will be delivered overnight by trucks and cranes via the McDonald Street and Station Street level crossings. During these times, you may notice a moderate increase in noise and lighting:

  • 1.30am to 4am, Tuesday 2 September to Friday 5 September
  • 1.30am to 4am Monday 8 September to Friday 12 September
  • 10pm to 5am, Tuesday 16 September to Friday 19 September
  • 1.30am to 4am, Monday 22 September to Thursday 25 September

There will be intermittent road closures and some delays. Local access will be maintained. We’ll be in touch with directly impacted residents and traders in advance.

Travel and access changes at Mordialloc Station

From Friday 29 August to mid 2026, we'll close Platform 2 at Mordialloc Station. Trains will run in both directions from Platform 1 to keep passengers moving and reduce the need for replacement buses while we build the rail bridges and new station. While these changes are in place, you can expect:

  • minor timetable changes on the Frankston Line, with some reduced services
  • the majority of Mordialloc Station car parks will remain closed.

Passengers can access Platform 1 via McDonald, Bear or Main streets. Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and check timetable information at Transport Victoria.

Station Street, Aspendale changes

No standing zones will be in place close to intersections to help safe turning movements with traffic management in place during works to help guide motorists.
