27 March 2025
We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges. We’re also removing and closing the Bear Street level crossing in Mordialloc and building a new Mordialloc Station.
What we’re doing
During April, we will:
- Complete earthworks and piling in the rail corridor and on Albert Street, Mordialloc between McDonald and Bear streets.
- Construct hardstand in the rail corridor near Pine Crescent, Aspendale, to support heavy machinery for piling (drilling) works.
- Install new rail services in Mordialloc and Aspendale.
- Continue site establishment at 4 Bear Street, Mordialloc.
- Continue vegetation removal and install safety fencing along the rail corridor.
- Temporarily relocate the Mordialloc Station bus interchange from the station (west) side of Albert Street to the other side of the road to make room for ongoing works near the station. Signs will be in place to guide you.
Utility companies will relocate services, including electricity, gas and water to make way for construction works. Temporary service interruptions to private properties may occur, and your utility provider will notify you ahead of time.
McDonald Street closure
McDonald Street in Mordialloc will remain closed between Albert Street and the Nepean Highway until mid-April for continuing civil upgrade works on the McDonald and Main Street intersection. For more information please see our Mordialloc disruption map.
Mordialloc Creek and the Governor Road boat ramp temporary closures
Public access to Mordialloc Creek will be closed from the Governor Road boat ramp to west of the Mordialloc Creek rail bridge over 3 non-consecutive days in April and May, while we bore under the creek to install underground rail services.
We’ll install signage at the boat ramp ahead of closure dates and notify community groups and any affected moorings holders in advance. These works will not affect access to the nearby pedestrian bridge or paths.
What to expect
Throughout April, you should expect changes to road conditions, parking, and pedestrian paths. You may notice an increase in construction workers and machinery, including moderate noise and vibration at times. Please expect delays on Nepean Highway in both directions, predominantly southbound, and allow extra travel time.
We’ll work 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 7am to 3pm on Saturdays. We’ll also work 24/7:
- until mid April to complete McDonald Street works
- from 8.30pm, Friday 16 April to last service Sunday 18 May in the rail corridor.
If we need to work outside of these times, we’ll let the community know in advance.
