We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges. We’re also removing and closing the Bear Street level crossing in Mordialloc and building a new Mordialloc Station.

What we’re doing

During July, we will:

  • undertake earthworks, piling and civil construction in the rail corridor in 2 locations:
    • Albert Street, Mordialloc between McDonald Street and Lewis Street
    • Station Street, Aspendale between Attenborough Road and Ruvina Street
  • complete sewer realignment and water main relocation works on Station Street, Aspendale
  • complete footpath and road reinstatement works on McDonald Street, Mordialloc
  • continue installing new rail services in Mordialloc and Aspendale.

Utility companies will continue relocating services (electricity, NBN, gas and water) to make way for construction works. Temporary service interruptions to private properties may occur, your utility provider will notify you ahead of time.

Piling and major earthworks

In July, major earthworks including piling and concrete pours will ramp up in the rail corridor and throughout the project area. With the current dry ground conditions, we are keeping a close watch on dust levels. Our team will increase controls in place to reduce and monitor these impacts, if required.

Mordialloc Stabling Yard underpass

To safely complete works near the Mordialloc Stabling Yard, the pedestrian underpass will be temporarily closed from Friday 18 July to Monday 21 July. Please detour via Bear Street or the George Woods Reserve pedestrian bridge.

Station Street changes

From Tuesday 8 July to Friday 11 July during daytime works, Station Street will close between Pine Crescent and Ruvina Street, for water main relocation works. On Wednesday 9 July, the closure will continue until 5am. Please follow signage and detour via Pine Crescent, Mill Street and Ruvina Street.

From Wednesday 9 July until late August, a temporary road west of Station Street between the level crossing and Pine Crescent will be in use to maintain traffic flow in the area during sewer realignment and installation works. Attenborough Road will be closed at the intersection of Station Street to maintain safe traffic flow in the area.

Parking on Attenborough Road will remain available. Temporary weekday no-standing zones will be installed on Pine Crescent and Pine Court to enable safe traffic movements. No-standing will apply from 21 July to early August during school pick up and drop off times. Residents can park in these streets at other times. Please expect delays and plan ahead. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Bear Street level crossing closure

From Monday 4 August, Bear Street will permanently close to traffic between Albert Street and Nepean Highway to facilitate construction of the new station precinct and elevated rail bridges.

Bear Street needs to permanently close to allow the new rail bridge over McDonald Street to tie into the nearby train stabling yard. This existing train stabling yard is an essential operating requirement for Melbourne’s rail network.

Drivers can still access Nepean Highway via McDonald Street and White Street. Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained, with temporary detours in place at times.

What to expect

Throughout July, there will be changes to road conditions, parking, and pedestrian access. You may notice an increase in construction workers and machinery, including high noise and vibration at times. Noise and vibration will continue to be closely monitored to ensure levels remain within safe and acceptable limits.

We’ll work 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 7am to 3pm on Saturdays.

We’ll also work 24/7 in the rail corridor from 8.30pm, Friday 18 July to last service, Sunday 20 July.

If we need to work outside of our normal construction hours, we’ll be in touch with directly impacted residents and traders.

Changes to the way you travel – Mordialloc

McDonald Street

  • Road closed between Albert Street and Nepean Highway/Main Street Service Road from 5am, Monday 16 June to early July, with local access maintained.

Albert Street

  • Closed between Lewis Street and McDonald Street at times throughout July, with local access maintained.
    • Please follow signage and detours in place. We will be in touch with directly affected residents.

Bear Street

  • Permanently closed between Albert Street and Nepean Highway (Main Street Service Road) from 5am, Monday 4 August.
  • Pedestrian access changes to Mordialloc Station between Albert Street and Main Street from Monday 21 July to Wednesday 23 July. Follow signage and detours in place.

Mordialloc Stabling Yard underpass

  • Underpass closed from Friday 18 July to Monday 21 July. Please follow signage.

Changes to the way you travel – Aspendale

Nepean Highway

  • Intermittent lane and parking closures between Station Street and Kara Grove until 2026. Traffic management in place.

Station Street

  • Vehicles detoured onto temporary road between the level crossing and Attenborough Road from Thursday 9 July to late August. Allow extra time – delays expected.
  • Station Street closed between Pine Crescent and Ruvina Street on:
    • Tuesday 8 July (9am to 2.45pm) ​
    • Wednesday 9 July (9am to 2.45pm) ​
    • Wednesday 9 July (7pm to 5am) ​
    • Thursday 10 July (9am to 2.45pm) ​
    • Friday 11 July (9am to 2.45pm)

    Detour via Pine Crescent, Mill Street, and Ruvina Street. Allow extra time – delays expected.

Attenborough Road

  • Road closed at the intersection with Station Street from Thursday 3 July to early August. Detour via Pine Crescent.

Pine Crescent and Pine Court

  • Sections of street parking closed to make room for temporary no-standing zones to enable safe traffic movements during road closures from Monday 21 July to late August.

Changes to the way you travel – public transport

Frankston Line

  • Buses replace trains between Cheltenham and Carrum from 8.30pm, Friday 8 July to last service, Sunday 20 July.

Frankston and Stony Point lines

  • Buses replace trains between Cheltenham, Frankston and Stony Point from 8.30pm, Monday 18 August to last service, Thursday 29 August.
  • At times, buses will extend to Moorabbin and Caulfield.

Mordialloc Station car parks

  • Changes to commuter parking and access until late 2026.
  • Check signage at the station or visit the PTV website for more information and alternative parking locations.

PTV bus stops

  • Changes to bus stops on Albert Street from Tuesday 1 July to late 2026.
    • the train replacement bus stop (To City) and bus stop route 709 (To Noble Park) will relocate to the existing bus stop on the opposite side of Albert Street.
    • route 705 (To Springvale) and 708 (To Hampton) bus stops will relocate to a temporary bus stop on the corner of Albert Street and Bear Street.
    • SkyBus will not service Mordialloc Station. Alternative SkyBus stops are located at Mentone and Chelsea stations.

For the safety of the community and our workers, traffic management will be in place throughout the area with short stops to pedestrians and vehicles at times while machinery and trucks are moving through the area.
