25 May 2025
We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges.
We’re also removing and closing the Bear Street level crossing in Mordialloc and building a new Mordialloc Station.
What we're doing
During June, we will:
- undertake earthworks, piling and rail bridge construction in the rail corridor in two locations:
- Albert Street, Mordialloc between McDonald Street and Bear Street
- Station Street, Aspendale between Attenborough Road and Ruvina Street
- complete drainage works along Station Street, Aspendale
- complete essential utility, drainage and road reinstatement works on McDonald Street, Mordialloc
- continue installing new rail services in Mordialloc and Aspendale
- continue vegetation removal and install safety fencing along the rail corridor
- construct a temporary road on Station Street, Aspendale between the level crossing and Attenborough Road, in preparation for sewer realignment works in July
- remove power poles and overhead wires along Albert Street.
Utility companies will continue relocating services (electricity, gas and water) to make way for construction works. Temporary service interruptions to private properties may occur, and your utility provider will notify you ahead of time.
To find out more about piling and how we build a rail bridge, view our Mordialloc and Aspendale – how we build the rail bridge fact sheet.
McDonald Street closure
McDonald Street will be closed from 5am, Monday 16 June until early July for the completion of essential utility, drainage and road reinstatement works.
Please follow signage and detour via White Street or Bear Street.
Station Street changes
In late June, we’ll build a temporary road west of Station Street, between the level crossing and Pine Crescent, to maintain traffic flow during sewer realignment and installation works in July and August.
From Thursday 3 July until early August the temporary road will be in use, and Attenborough Road will be closed at the intersection of Station Street to maintain safe traffic flow in the area.
Parking on Attenborough Road will remain available. Temporary weekday no-standing zones will be installed on Pine Crescent and Pine Court to enable safe traffic movements.
No standing will apply from Monday 21 July until early August during school pick up and drop off times. Residents can park in these streets at other times.
Please expect delays and plan ahead. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
What to expect
Throughout June, there will be changes to road conditions, parking, and pedestrian access. You may notice an increase in construction workers and machinery, including moderate noise and vibration at times. Noise and vibration will continue to be closely monitored to ensure levels remain within safe and acceptable limits.
Pedestrian access changes will be in place on McDonald Street and in Mordialloc Creek Reserve throughout June and July. Intermittent lane closures will be in place on Nepean Highway, Bear Street and Station Street.
We’ll work 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 7am to 3pm on Saturdays. We’ll also work 24/7 from 8.30pm, Friday 27 June to last service, Sunday 29 June in the rail corridor. If we need to work outside of these times, we’ll let the community know in advance.
