9 January 2025

The Victorian Government is making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029, improving safety and easing congestion.

In 2024, we removed the level crossings at Warrigal and Parkers Roads, opened the new Parkdale station, station carparking. We opened sections of the shared use path as well as some of the community facilities in the open space under the rail bridge, including public toilets, the basketball half-court, public seating and installing the artwork.

From 14 January 2025, we will continue works on the remaining sections of open space under the rail bridge. We will also complete the remaining road resurfacing and line marking and open the final street parking spaces. Precinct lighting will be connected, including street lighting, flashing zebra crossing lights, and the signalised pedestrian crossing at Parkers Road.

Most works are expected to be complete in early 2025, weather dependent. Landscaping will take place in autumn 2025, for best planting results.

What we’re doing

During January and February, we will:

  • Complete the shared use path, including the signalised pedestrian crossing over Parkers Road
  • Finish concreting and hardscaping the open space, including the nature-based playground, open air gym and community garden
  • Open the remaining station precinct parking on Como Parade West
  • Finalise pedestrian crossing features at Warrigal Road and White Street including traffic islands
  • Resurface final sections of Parkers Road and sections of Como Parade East after utility works are complete
  • United Energy (UE) contractors will connect power to public lighting and complete concreting around light poles*

*For any queries about these works, please call UE direct on 1300 131 689.

Works will take place during the following times:

  • 7am to 6pm weekdays
  • 7am to 3pm Saturdays
  • 7pm to 7am as required

We have scheduled works to reduce impacts to the community where possible.

What to expect

  • Crews back on site from 14 January using compounds and laydown areas, and trucks accessing the site.
  • Delays and detours on roads and footpaths with signage and traffic management in place.
  • Short-term impacts to street parking in sections.
  • Some driveway access will be impacted for two hours while asphalt is curing. We will notify affected residents in advance.
  • Moderate noise and vibration from machinery, including for road resurfacing and light pole installation.
  • Some night works, including near Parkers Road and Warrigal Road for one night.
  • Works are weather dependent and may be rescheduled due to weather conditions. We will provide targeted updates to affected residents and traders, including dates for the works in the below table.
