3 November 2023

The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often. We’re removing the level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale, and building a new Parkdale Station.

What we’re doing

The Warrigal Road boom gates have been relocated a few metres east to provide safe pedestrian and vehicle crossing of the temporary track.

From Saturday 4 November:

  • trains will operate on the new temporary rail track until mid 2024
  • Parkers Road will re-open to vehicles and pedestrians.

Outside the rail corridor we will be:

  • completing drainage and utility works along Como Parade East and Como Parade West.

Inside the rail corridor we will be:

  • building hardstands along Como Parade East from Rogers Street to Laburnum Street
  • delivering construction materials to the work sites
  • doing piling and installing structures.

What to expect

  • Moderate noise and vibration from machinery, including excavators and piling rigs.
  • Traffic management near the work sites and additional truck movements in the area.
  • Delays and changes to how you travel around the area (see map below).
  • Street parking temporarily unavailable in sections.

Changes to the way you travel

  • No right turn from Warrigal Road into Como Parade East when travelling east until the new rail bridge is operating in mid 2024 and the temporary track is removed. This change has been put in place to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians.
  • Warrigal Road closed for up to one hour for piling rig movement between Thursday 16 November and Tuesday 21 November.
  • Warrigal Road eastbound lane closure from Thursday 16 November to Tuesday 21 November for bridge pier installation.
  • Parkers Road closed at the level crossing in late November for one short-term day time closure (up to one hour for piling rig movement).
  • Parkers Road eastbound lane closure from Saturday 2 December to Wednesday 6 December for bridge pier installation.
  • Como Parade East closed northbound from Barry Street to Parkers Road.
  • Road, footpath and lane closures on Como Parade East and West – expect minor delays and use detours.
  • Several pedestrian rail crossings closed until project end - refer to signage for nearest open crossings.
  • Shuttle buses will operate between Mentone and Mordialloc stations.
  • Parking is available on Como Parade West (trader side), behind the shops via Alameda Place, and on the corner of Como Parade East and Parkers Road.
