21 September 2023

The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often. We’re removing the level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale, and building a new Parkdale Station.

What we’re doing

We’ll be undertaking night works within the rail corridor between Parkers Road and Warrigal Road for critical works to be completed prior to major works in October. Night works will take place from Sunday 1 to Wednesday 4 October, 6pm to 7am each night.

These works are necessary, prior to the temporary rail track beginning operations in early November 2023.

Works during this period will include:

  • decommissioning overhead cables and enabling the 22kV underground cables
  • removal of the boom gates, flashers, pedestrian gates, signals and removing redundant cable at the Warrigal Road level crossing.

What to expect

During these night works, you may notice:

  • moderate noise from construction machinery and plant
  • traffic management controls near the work site
  • an increase in workers, vehicles, and construction equipment
  • light towers directed away from housing, minimal generator noise.

See map below for more details of works areas.
