26 March 2024

The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion, and allowing more trains to run more often. We’re removing the level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale, and building a new Parkdale Station.

What we’re doing

During April, we will continue to deliver and install large concrete beams for the new rail bridge. These works will continue during the day and at night along sections of the rail corridor until May.

We will continue working around the clock from Sunday to Friday, with works also on some Saturday nights in April. We will be in touch with directly affected residents.

We will also:

  • continue drainage and utility works during the day along Como Parade East and Como Parade West
  • deliver a rail building and lift shafts to the station precinct
  • continue to build the retaining walls and abutments at the northern and southern ends of the project

What to expect

  • Increased activity overnight as large trucks and cranes deliver and install concrete structures
  • Moderate to high noise and vibration from machinery, including cranes, excavators and trucks
  • Minor delays and detours on roads and footpaths, and lane closures
  • Minor traffic delays near site access gates for increased truck and trailer movements and deliveries
  • Additional truck movements and vehicles for support crews
  • Temporary lighting in place to safely illuminate work areas during night shifts
  • The carpark located on the corner of Como Parade East and Parkers Road will close from early May until early August
  • Como Parade West will remain closed southbound, from Parkers Road to Royal Parade until early August
  • Como Parade West will close in sections from 9pm to 7am in April for the delivery of the concrete beams with detours clearly signed and access to properties maintained
  • Como Parade West will be closed between McIndoe Parade and Dalmor Street from late April until late June
  • Como Parade East will remain closed northbound between Peter Avenue and Nepean Highway
  • Como Parade East will remain closed northbound from Parkers Road to Barry Street until project completion
  • Affected residents will be contacted in advance
