24 April 2024

The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion, and allowing more trains to run more often. We’re removing the level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale, and building a new Parkdale Station.

What we’re doing

During May, we will continue to deliver and install concrete beams for the new rail bridge.

We will also:

  • begin construction on the rail track and overhead structures that make up the rail bridge
  • deliver and install station precinct buildings
  • continue drainage and utility works during the day along Como Parade East, Como Parade West and Peter Avenue
  • continue to build the retaining walls and abutments at the northern and southern ends of the project

Works will take place during the following times in sections of the rail corridor:

  • 7am to 6pm weekdays
  • 7am to 3pm Saturdays
  • 7pm to 7am nightworks

During June, we will also work 24-hours between 14 to 17 June and 21 to 24 June. More information about these works will be provided in our June notification.

What to expect

  • Increased activity overnight as trucks and cranes deliver and install concrete structures
  • Moderate to high noise and vibration from machinery, including cranes, excavators and trucks
  • Minor delays and detours on roads and footpaths, and lane closures
  • Minor traffic delays near site access gates for increased truck and trailer movements and deliveries
  • Additional truck movements and vehicles for support crews
  • Temporary lighting in place to safely illuminate work areas during night shifts
  • The carpark on the corner of Como Parade East and Parkers Road will close from early May until early August

During June, we will also work 24-hours between 14 to 17 June and 21 to 24 June. More information about these works will be provided in our June notification.
