12 May 2026

We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free this year. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

What we’re doing

We’ll be working in and around the rail corridor between Coburns Road and Ferris Road 24/7 from 10pm, Tuesday 26 May to 4am, Saturday 30 May to:

  • continue constructing the new Melton Station and rail bridge works
  • undertake pavement works at the Hazel Street roundabout
  • install signalling infrastructure, drainage and underground services.

What to expect

  • Works taking place 24 hours a day, with increased lighting, noise, vibration and traffic in the area.
  • Minor traffic delays at the Coburns Road level crossing to bring construction machinery onto site.
  • One way traffic overnight on sections of Brooklyn Road and Hazel Street.
  • Dust minimised with watercarts.

Traffic management and signage will be in place to help you move around the area.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however, dates and times are subject to change.

Changes to the way you travel

While we complete these works, there will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines with buses replacing trains from 10pm, Tuesday 26 May to last service, Friday 29 May.
