24 October 2025

We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

What we’re doing

We’ll be closing Coburns Road at the level crossing to install the new rail bridge over the road at times in November. Detours will be in place.

We’ll also be working within the rail corridor at night to install rail bridge retaining wall segments and build the new rail bridges from Sunday 9 November to Wednesday 12 November, 9pm to 4am each night.

While we complete these works there will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from 9pm, Sunday 9 November to last service on Tuesday 11 November.

Visit Transport Victoria for more information and to plan your journey. Please allow extra travel time.

We’ll also receive oversized deliveries at night to our construction site at times in November. Transport regulations require oversized deliveries to be made in the evening and overnight when traffic volumes on delivery routes are low.

Where and when we’ll be working

  • Coburns Road closed between Rees Road and James Melrose Drive from 7pm, Thursday 13 November to 8am, Sunday 16 November to lift in the new rail bridge.

  • An increase in noise and traffic movement in the area

Traffic management and signage will be in place during closures and overnight deliveries to help you move around the area. Access to homes, schools and businesses will be maintained with detours in place.
