20 December 2024
We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.
What we’re doing
In January, we will be:
- removing trees and vegetation along Ferris Road and near the level crossing.
- relocating essential services, including water, sewerage, gas, telecommunications and electricity.
- undertaking earthworks and ground improvement works on both sides of the level crossing.
- redirecting pedestrian access at the level crossing.
There will also be rail, road and pedestrian disruptions in your area.
Changes to the way you travel
Rail
- There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines between Bacchus Marsh and Southern Cross from first service, Thursday 30 January until last service, Monday 3 February.
- Visit the PTV website for more information and to plan your journey.
24/7 works
- Ferris Road will be closed from 9pm, Wednesday 29 January to 7am, Tuesday 4 February between the roundabout at Abey Road/Shogaki Drive and the intersection at Hollingsworth Drive/Coach Street. Detours will be in place.
- There will be a pedestrian detour in place at Ferris Road during this time.
- Crews will work 24/7 to complete road barrier installation, fencing, asphalting, line marking and utility relocation.
- Please see the road detour map below.
Pedestrian
- A pedestrian detour will be in place at Hollingsworth Drive at times to allow for underground services to be relocated.
- From 9pm, Wednesday 29 January to 7am, Tuesday 4 February there will be a pedestrian detour in place at Ferris Road.
- Please see the pedestrian closure and detour maps below.
Other works in the area
- To build the new road bridge, install new infrastructure and relocate existing services, some tree and vegetation removal is required along Ferris Road. This will take place in stages from January to March 2025.
- Careful planning is undertaken to minimise tree removal and reduce impacts to local flora and fauna, as much as possible.
What to expect
- Crews will work 24/7 from 9pm, Wednesday 29 January to 7am, Tuesday 4 February in the area. Impacted stakeholders will be notified directly.
- Increased construction noise, construction vehicles, works crews and machinery in the area.
- Traffic management in place including road closure, pedestrian impacts, lane closures and reduced speed limits, at times.
- Our general working hours are 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm, on Saturdays.
- Some out of hours work may be required, at times. We will contact impacted properties ahead of works with more information.
