We’ve removed the level crossing at Hopkins Road in Truganina and the boom gates at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads will be gone this year making Melton level crossing free. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station that will open this year.

We’re removing the level crossing at Ferris Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line.

What we’re doing

In June and July, we’ll close Ferris Road and work 24/7 to connect the new bridge with the existing road.

Works will include:

  • Pavement works to connect the new road bridge with the existing area, asphalting, line marking, installing lighting and decommissioning the old road.
  • Painting the road bridge panels and barriers.
  • Service investigation and installation along Ferris Road, Coach Street and Hollingsworth Drive.
  • Landscaping in the area.

Changes to the way you travel

Road

From 1am, Tuesday 23 June to Wednesday 15 July:

  • Ferris Road closed in both directions between Abey Road / Shogaki Drive and the Hollingsworth Drive / Coach Street intersection. Detours will be in place.
  • The left southbound lane on Ferris Road will be a designated waiting zone for trucks between Treeleaf Lane and Shogaki Drive, to allow light vehicles to safely continue through the area. Traffic management will be in place to guide vehicles.
  • At times, there will also be changed traffic conditions at the intersection of Hollingsworth Drive, Coach St and Ferris Road.
  • Additional time will be added to local journeys. Please allow extra time for travel.

What to expect

  • We’ll work 24/7 from 1am, Tuesday 23 June to Wednesday 15 July to complete critical works on the new road bridge and surrounding areas.
  • Until late 2026, there will be a long-term pedestrian closure along Ferris Road and surrounding areas with detours in place.
  • Traffic management, including intermittent stops, lane closures, reduced speed limits and detours will be in place at times. Delays will be experienced.
  • Increase in construction vehicles, works crews, large machinery and deliveries.
  • Lighting for safe working conditions at night and increased noise, dust and vibration.
  • Unforeseen weather conditions may affect our progress and require additional works outside of these hours. We’ll contact impacted stakeholders prior to any work commencing.
