3 March 2025

We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

What we’re doing

Over the coming months, we’ll continue preparing the area for major construction of the new Ferris Road overpass.

During this time, we’ll:

  • remove trees and vegetation along Ferris Road and near the level crossing
  • relocate essential services, including water, sewerage, gas, telecommunications and electricity
  • undertake earthworks and ground improvement works along Ferris Road, on both sides of the level crossing
  • install concrete barriers along Ferris Road to safely delineate the project site and traffic moving through the area.

There will also be road and pedestrian disruptions in your area.

Works and disruptions

Exford Road

  • To allow us to safely relocate power poles, we will need to close Exford Road at the level crossing from 9pm, Sunday 2 March to 5am, Wednesday 5 March.
  • Detours will be in place via Coburns Road.

Pedestrian

  • From 4am, Saturday 15 March until late 2026 there will be a pedestrian closure in place along Ferris Road and across the level crossing.
