19 February 2026

We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Ferris Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line. Thank you for your patience as we deliver this important project.

What we’re doing

In February, works will include:

  • utility investigations along Ferris Road, Coach Street and Hollingsworth Drive
  • constructing the new Ferris Road bridge deck, approach pavements and installing retaining walls
  • Ferris Road pavement works and road barrier realignment.

Reminder: Ferris Road closure and 24/7 works

To safely complete the pavement works and road barrier realignment along Ferris Road, there will be disruptions in your area.

Road

Ferris Road:

  • Closed from 8pm, Friday 27 February to 5am, Monday 2 March between the roundabout at Abey Road and Shogaki Drive and the intersection at Hollingsworth Drive and Coach Street. Detours will be in place. See detour map below.
  • We’ll work 24/7 from 7pm, Thursday 26 February to 7am, Monday 2 March, to safely locate essential services, complete pavement works and road barrier alignment.
  • Until late 2026 stops, lane closures, road closure and reduced speed limits at times.
  • Allow extra time for travel.
