29 April 2025
We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.
Throughout May, we’ll start constructing the foundations of the new road bridge, including piling works behind the barriers on either side of the rail corridor.
What we’re doing
- Continuing to relocate essential services in the area.
- Continue earthworks and ground improvement works along Ferris Road, including asphalt.
- Commence piling on both sides of the level crossing.
- Install concrete barriers along Ferris Road to safely delineate the project site and traffic moving through the area.
To get the job done, there will be road, rail and pedestrian disruptions in the area.
Works and disruptions
Ferris Road
- Ferris Road will be closed from 4am, Saturday 3 May to 7pm, Sunday 4 May between the roundabout at Abey Road/Shogaki Drive and the intersection at Hollingsworth Drive/Coach Street. Detours will be in place.
- Please see the road detour map below.
24/7 works
- To minimise impacts, we’ll work from 7pm, Friday 2 May to 7pm, Sunday 4 May 24 hours a day to complete barrier installation and utility relocation works along Ferris Road.
- We’ll also work from 7pm, Saturday 31 May to 7am, Monday 2 June to complete piling works near the level crossing.
- During these works, there will be lane closures in place at times along Ferris Road.
