We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Ferris Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line. Over the coming months, we will install the bridge beams, begin construction of the bridge deck and construct the retaining walls.

Upcoming 24/7 works

There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from 9pm, Friday 10 October to last service Sunday 12 October.

During this time, we will work around the clock from 7pm, Friday 10 October until 7am, Monday 13 October to install road barriers and anti-throw screens.

We’ll also close Ferris Road from 8pm, Friday 10 October until 6am, Monday 13 October between the roundabout at Abey Road/Shogaki Drive and the intersection at Hollingsworth Drive/Coach Street.

To help traffic move through the area, we are working closely with other projects to ensure Exford Road and Ferris Road will not be closed at the same time. See the Ferris Road detour map below.

What to expect

• Until late 2026, there will be a long-term pedestrian closure along Ferris Road with detours in place.
• Traffic management, including intermittent lane closures and reduced speed limits, will be in place at times. Delays may be experienced.
• Increase in construction vehicles, works crews, large machinery and deliveries.
• You may experience an increase in construction noise, light and vibration.
• Unforeseen weather conditions may affect our progress and require additional works or for us to work outside of regular working hours. We’ll contact impacted stakeholders if dates change.

Changes to the way you travel

Rail

• There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from 9pm, Friday 10 October until last service Sunday 12 October.
• Coaches will replace trains at night on Monday 13 October and Tuesday 14 October.
