7 June 2025

We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

At Ferris Road, we’re removing the level crossing by building a road bridge over the rail line.

What we’re doing

Throughout June, we’ll continue constructing the foundations of the new road bridge on both sides of the level crossing. During this time, we’ll continue:

  • working with utility providers to relocate essential services in the area
  • earthworks and ground improvement works along Ferris Road
  • piling on both sides of the level crossing.

Upcoming disruptions

Rail

  • There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from Saturday 24 May to Saturday 7 June.

What to expect

  • Until late 2026, there will be a long-term pedestrian closure along Ferris Road. Minor detours are in place.
  • Although we anticipate works to be low impact, you may experience an increase in construction noise, light and vibration.
  • Increased construction vehicles, works crews, large machinery and deliveries, including piling machinery.
  • Traffic management in place, including road and lane closures and reduced speed limits, at times. Impacted properties will be contacted ahead of works.
  • Outside of our nights works, our general working hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and Saturday 7am to 3pm.
