We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line. Works to construct the foundations of the road bridge are underway with piling almost complete.

What we’re doing

  • Continuing earthworks to construct the base of the new road bridge.
  • Completing piling on both sides of the rail corridor.
  • Removing redundant infrastructure along Hopkins Road.
  • Transporting large vehicles and machinery across the construction site and via Hopkins Road.
  • Pouring concrete to form the road bridge foundations and walls.

Night works in April

  • The project will complete survey works in the rail corridor between 10pm and 4am from Friday 11 April to Sunday 13 April, while no trains are running.
  • Impacted residents and stakeholders will be notified directly, however we expect these works to be low impact with handheld equipment only.

What to expect

  • Increased construction personnel, vehicles and equipment in the area.
  • Increased noise, dust and vibration.
  • Traffic management, including lane closures and reduced speed limits at times. Minor delays may be experienced.
  • General working hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 7am to 3pm.
