We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line. Thank you for your patience while we continue this important infrastructure project.

Over the coming months, we’ll continue landscaping the area, constructing the shared use path, as well as installing guardrail, road barriers and handrails. We’ll also paint the road bridge walls.

We’ll remove temporary concrete barriers, install permanent fencing and fit the final screens on the road bridge while no trains are running.

Upcoming rail impacts and night works

We’ll work at night on Tuesday 16 December between 6pm and 5am to complete critical service relocation works at the corner of Sheahan Road and Hopkins Road. We’ll be in touch with any residents or businesses who may be affected by these works.

To safely complete works in January, there will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough Lines from 11pm, Saturday 10 January to last service Friday 23 January.

We’ll also work during the night at times between 7pm, Tuesday 13 January and 7pm, Saturday 24 January to complete works while no trains are running.

• General working hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 7am to 3pm, with some out of hours works necessary at times.

Landscaping is now underway, and the project team will begin planting native trees, shrubs and grasses over the coming months.

End of year shut down period

There will be no construction activity during the holiday period. Construction works will finish on Friday 19 December 2025 and recommence on Tuesday 13 January 2026.
