We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line. Piling is now complete and works to construct the above-ground structures of the road bridge are underway.

What we’re doing

  • Continuing earthworks to construct the base of the new road bridge.
  • Transporting large vehicles and machinery across the construction site and via Hopkins Road.
  • Installing formwork and pouring concrete to form the road bridge foundations and walls.
  • Surveying and adjusting the rail track while no trains are running.
  • Completing underground service relocation works in the rail corridor.

Upcoming disruptions

24/7 works

  • Crews will work 24/7 in the rail corridor while no trains are running from 7pm, Friday 30 May until 7am, Monday 2 June.
  • Impacted residents and stakeholders will be notified directly. However, we expect these activities to be low impact due to the location of works within the project area.

Rail

  • There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from Saturday 24 May until Saturday 7 June.
  • Visit the PTV website for more information and to plan your journey. Please allow extra travel time.
