We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line.

During November, we’ll continue landscaping the area, constructing the shared use path and installing permanent light poles and road barriers. We’ll also work at night while no trains are running to paint the road bridge walls and safely install bridge screens over the railway line.

Upcoming night works

We’ll work each night between 9pm and 5am, from Sunday 9 November until Wednesday 12 November to complete works on the bridge deck while the rail line is closed.

We’ll also work each night from 7pm to 7am on Friday 5 December and Monday 8 December, to install a watermain under Hopkins Road, between Sheahan Road and Meskos Road. There may be minor delays to traffic for up to 10 minutes at times while we complete works. Please refer to signage when moving through the area.

We’ll be in touch with any residents or businesses who may be directly affected by these works.

There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines, including:

• Coaches replace evening trains for all or part of the journey between Southern Cross and Wendouree each night from Sunday 9 November to Tuesday 11 November.

What to expect

• Increased construction personnel, vehicles and equipment in the area.
• Increased noise, dust and vibration.
• Traffic management, including lane closures and reduced speed limits at times.
• General working hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 7am to 3pm, with some out of hours works necessary at times.
