We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue building the new road bridge, including constructing the bridge deck and installing barriers, anti-throw screens and retaining wall panels. We’ll also work to build the new shared use path and the road bridge embankment.

Upcoming rail closure and 24/7 works

There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines for level crossing removal project works from 9pm, Friday 10 October until last service Sunday 12 October. We will work 24/7 at times while the rail line is closed to continue to build the new road bridge.

We’ll also work from 7pm to 7am each night on Tuesday 14 October and Wednesday 15 October.

Additional 24/7 works may be required at times throughout September and October. We’ll be in touch directly with any residents or businesses who may be affected by these works.
