We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road by building a new road bridge over the rail line.

Upcoming 24/7 works in August

To allow our crews to continue building the new road bridge across the rail line, we’ll need to work 24/7 at times in July and August.

We'll work from:

  • 7pm, Thursday 31 July to 7am, Tuesday 5 August
  • 7pm, Thursday 21 August to 7am, Saturday 23 August
  • 7pm, Friday 29 August to 7am, Monday 1 September.

Additional 24/7 works may be required at times throughout August and September. We’ll be in touch directly with any residents or businesses who may be affected by these works.

There may also be minor traffic delays on Hopkins Road in mid August, while we complete works to prepare for the delivery of bridge beams. We’ll provide details closer to the time.

Changes to the way you travel

Rail

  • There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from first service, Saturday 30 August until last service, Sunday 31 August.

What to expect

  • Increased construction personnel, vehicles and equipment in the area.
  • Increased noise, dust and vibration.
  • Traffic management, including lane closures and reduced speed limits at times.
  • General working hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 7am to 3pm, with some out of hours works necessary at times.
