19 February 2026

We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

We’re removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road by constructing a new road bridge over the rail line.

Throughout March, we will continue landscaping the sloped embankments and asphalting the road bridge. We will also construct the new shared-use path along Hopkins Road and install permanent light poles on the bridge.

To support future works, short-term access roads will be built behind temporary fencing at the corner of Hopkins and Meskos roads, and at the corner of Sheahan and Hopkins roads. To facilitate these works, there will be some vegetation removal on the corner of Hopkins and Meskos roads. We will replace and replant additional vegetation when the area is reinstated.

Works will also take place on Cropley Lane to build a new rail access track. To facilitate these works, temporary fencing and bollards will be installed near Hopkins Road at the end of Cropley Lane.

See the map below of the new temporary work areas.
