11 December 2025
We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free next year. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.
What we’re doing
We’ll be working 24/7 from 7am, Tuesday 13 January to 4am, Saturday 24 January in and around the rail corridor from west of Coburns Road to Toolern Creek to:
- continue rail bridge works and building the new Melton Station
- carry out track works and maintenance
- install signalling infrastructure, drainage and underground services.
We’ll also be closing Coburns Road between Staughton Street and James Melrose Drive at times in January to continue building the new rail bridge. Detours will be in place. For closure dates and times visit the Melton level crossing removals project page under disruptions.
While we complete these works, there will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines with buses/coaches replacing trains between Southern Cross and Bacchus Marsh from 11pm, Saturday 10 January to last service, Friday 23 January 2026.
Visit Transport Victoria for more information and to plan your journey. Please allow extra travel time.
