We’ve removed the level crossing at Hopkins Road in Truganina and the boom gates at Ferris Road will be gone for good on Wednesday 15 July 2026. Two more sets of boom gates at Coburns and Exford roads will be gone this year, making Melton level crossing free. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station that will open this year.

What we're doing

We’re working 24 hours a day in and around the rail corridor between Coburns and Ferris roads from 9pm, Sunday 19 July to 4am, Monday 27 July to:

  • continue construction of the new Melton Station and rail bridges
  • undertake pavement testing in the station car parks
  • conduct road testing on Coburns Road at the level crossing
  • replace an underground drainage pipe on Staughton Street

Changes to the way you travel

Road

  • Staughton Street closed between Rees Road and Cooper Street from 10pm to 5am each night, Sunday 19 July to Monday 27 July.
    • Staughton Street will remain open during nighttime closures of Coburns Road below.
  • Coburns Road closed from 10pm to 6am each night, Thursday 23 July and Friday 24 July:
    • Detours will be in place via Rees, Wilson and Exford roads. Detour map below.

Rail

  • Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines service changes with coaches and buses replacing trains from 10pm, Wednesday 22 July to last service, Sunday 26 July. Please allow extra travel time. Visit Transport Victoria for more information and to plan your journey. Please allow extra travel time.

Parking

  • Overnight staged Melton Station car park closures.

What to expect

  • Works taking place 24 hours a day, with an increase in noise, lighting, vibration and construction vehicles moving around the area.
  • Dust minimised with watercarts.
