We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford, Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

What we’re doing

Construction is underway for the new Melton Station and the rail bridges over Coburns and Exford roads. Throughout April, we’re building a temporary bus interchange off Brooklyn Road.

There will be some night works, road closures, pedestrian and car park impacts during these works. Please follow signage and direction from traffic controllers in the area.


Where and when we’ll be working

Brooklyn Road (between Exford Road and Hazel Street)

From Tuesday 8 April to Friday 11 April, 9pm to 4.30am each night:

  • Brooklyn Road closed between Hazel Street and Exford Road
  • Detours via Coburns Road and Staughton Street
  • Pedestrian access and access to homes and businesses will be maintained
  • Melton Station Square Shopping Centre access via Station Road
  • Melton Station access via Brooklyn Road available from 4.30am each day

Brooklyn Road (between Exford Road and Hazel Street)

From Tuesday 8 April to end of project, 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm on Saturdays:

  • To maintain traffic flow, all on-street parking on Brooklyn Road, between Hazel Street and Exford Road will be removed until the end of the project
  • Traffic will be maintained in both directions
  • Pedestrian access and access to homes and businesses will be maintained
  • Melton Station car parks can continue to be accessed via Brooklyn Road

What to expect

  • Night works to install traffic barriers and line marking
  • Removal of on-street parking on Brooklyn Road, between Hazel Street and Exford Road
  • Traffic detours and management in place
  • Construction vehicles and workers in the area
  • An increase in noise and traffic movement in the area
  • Pedestrian detours around the Melton Station precinct, please follow signs and direction from traffic controllers
  • Intermittent lane closures around the Melton Station precinct
  • Drivers leaving Melton Station car park after 9pm will be escorted out during night works.

Access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times. Please allow extra time when travelling through the area.

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule, however dates and times are subject to change.
