26 May 2025
We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.
Construction is underway for the new Melton Station and the rail bridges over Coburns and Exford roads and the road bridges over the rail line at Ferris and Hopkins roads.
Throughout June, works will continue in and around the Melton Station precinct including building the temporary bus interchange on Brooklyn Road, new station car parking and the support structures for the new rail bridges.
At times we will work 24/7, with changes to how you travel around the area.
Please allow extra travel time and follow signage and direction from traffic controllers.
Access to local businesses and homes will be maintained at all times.
What to expect
- Detours in place for drivers and pedestrians
- Traffic management and signage
- Construction vehicles and machinery movements
- Noise, dust and vibration
- Additional lighting during night works
Changes to how you travel
Exford Road
To construct a new accessible pedestrian crossing, Exford Road will be closed for 2 weekends between Brooklyn Road and Staughton Street from:
- 9pm, Friday 20 June to 5am Monday 23 June
- 9pm, Friday 27 June to 5am, Monday 30 June.
Detours will be in place via Coburns Road and access to Creek Street will be maintained at all times.
Brooklyn Road
To adjust and move on-street barriers we’ll close Brooklyn Road at the intersection of Hazel Street for 2 nights in June.
Detours will be in place via Coburns, Exford and Richard roads.
To allow for construction of the north-west station car park, the southern footpath on Brooklyn Road between Hazel Street and Coburns Road will be closed from Wednesday 11 June to late September.
Pedestrian detours will be in place on the northern side of Brooklyn Road.
Access to homes, businesses and the station car park will be maintained.
Rees Road
Rees Road will be closed to undertake pedestrian line marking works from 8pm, Thursday 29 May to 4am, Friday 30 May.
Detours will be in place via Staughton Street, Exford Road and Wilson Road.
To allow safe access for heavy machinery and oversize deliveries, we’ll temporarily remove on-street parking on Rees Road between Staughton Street and Al Iman College, in June until the end of the project.
Access to Al Iman College will be maintained at all times.
