We’re removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns, Exford and Ferris roads in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina to make Melton boom gate free in 2026. We’re also building a new modern and accessible Melton Station.

What we’re doing

Construction is underway for the new Melton Station and the rail bridges over Coburns and Exford roads. Throughout July, we’ll be working in the station precinct including:

• Installing sections of the station retaining wall
• Building the temporary bus interchange on Brooklyn Road, new car parks and supports for the rail bridges
• Night works including overnight deliveries to our construction site.

Please follow signage and direction from traffic controllers.

Where and when we'll be working

Brooklyn Road

• There will be intermittent night-time closures on Brooklyn Road between Coburns and Exford roads throughout July
• On-street parking closed between Hazel and Waratah streets for car park construction works
• The southern footpath remains closed between Hazel and Waratah streets until the end of September.

Coburns Road

• There will be oversized deliveries to site via Coburns Road and Staughton Street from 11pm to 7am throughout July
• Lane closure between Brooklyn Road and Staughton Street for one day in July.

Staughton Street

• Works on site next to the rail track to install sections of the station retaining wall while trains are not running from 9pm Sunday 20 July to 4am Wednesday 23 July.

Coaches replace evening trains between Southern Cross and Wendouree from Sunday 20 July to Tuesday 22 July.

What to expect

• An increase in construction vehicles, workers, noise and lighting in the area
• Pedestrian detours and footpath closures around the Melton Station precinct
• Intermittent lane around the Melton Station precinct

Access to business and homes will be maintained. Please allow extra time when travelling through the area.

Impacted residents and business will be directly notified in advance of night works taking place.

We'll make every effort to complete works on schedule, however dates and times are subject to change.
