We’re removing the Ruthven Street, Macleod level crossing by building a rail bridge over the road. Early works are getting underway and construction will start later this year.

Before we start construction, we’re installing fencing around our work areas, setting up small site facilities for our crews and relocating underground services in June and July.

What we’re doing

  • Setting up site offices, temporary buildings and storage areas on the corner of Ruthven and McNamara streets, near Macleod Station and on Somers Avenue.
  • Installing safety barriers and fencing.
  • Excavating and relocating underground services.

What to expect

  • Road, lane, parking and pedestrian path closures with traffic management and detours in place.
  • Construction vehicles and machinery in the area.
  • Increased lighting, dust, noise and vibration.
  • Works from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and from 7am to 1pm, Saturday.

Changes to the way you travel

Road

  • Chapman Street (beside Rosanna Parklands) westbound lane closure from 7.30am, Monday 1 June to 4pm, Friday 5 June. Detours in place.
  • 45 Somers Avenue work area traffic management in place to guide vehicles from 7.30am, Monday 1 June to 6pm, Friday 5 June.
  • McNamara Street (corner of Ruthven Street) southbound lane closure in early June. Access to local businesses maintained.
  • Ellesmere Parade between Ruthven and Davies streets closed off-peak times from 9am, Thursday 11 June to 3pm, Friday 13 June. Local access to homes maintained. Informal parking along the rail line permanently removed.

Rail

  • Rail corridor works near Powley Parade from midnight until 3am, Thursday 4 June. Worksite noise may be heard at times.

Parking

  • Macleod Station car park spaces and sections of car park closed from early June until 2027. Alternative all day parking on Somers Avenue.
  • Macleod Oval car park closed at times from late June until 2027.

Pedestrian

  • Pedestrian path behind Macleod Tennis Club closed from early June.
