We’re removing the Ruthven Street, Macleod level crossing by building a rail bridge over the road. Early works are getting underway and construction will start later this year.
We’re preparing the foundations of the rail bridge, installing underground services and safety fencing and upgrading rail infrastructure in the project area in July.
We’re also working along the rail corridor 24 hours a day from 9pm, Friday 17 July to 3am, Monday 20 July.
What we’re doing
- Piling for the new rail bridge and power infrastructure.
- Installing underground services and safety fencing.
- Trimming and removing vegetation along the rail corridor and in the project area between Davies Street, Rosanna and May Street, Macleod from mid July.
What to expect
- Works 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and from 7am to 1pm, Saturday.
- We’re also working 24 hours a day along the rail corridor from 9pm, Friday 17 July to 3am, Monday 20 July.
- Road, lane, parking and pedestrian path closures with traffic management and detours in place.
- Increased construction vehicles and machinery, lighting, dust, noise and vibration.
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however, dates and times are subject to change.
Changes to the way you travel
Road
- Ellesmere Parade closed between Davies and Ruthven streets from 7am to 5pm each day on Tuesday 7 July to Friday 10 July. Vehicle detours and traffic management in place. Access to homes maintained via access passes and traffic management. Pedestrian access maintained at all times.
- Ruthven Street at the level crossing temporary stop and holds for vehicles and delays for up to 5 mins from 8.30pm, Friday 17 July top 3am, Monday 20 July.
Parking
- Macleod Park oval car park closed from Monday 13 July to Tuesday 21 July. Pedestrian access maintained.
- Macleod Station car parking reduced at times with alternative parking available along Somers Avenue from Thursday 16 July to Monday 20 July. Up to 6 bike hoops closed.
Train
- Buses replace trains between Heidelberg and Greensborough stations from 8.30pm, Friday 17 July to last service Sunday 19 July. Please allow extra travel time. For more information and to plan your journey visit the Transport Victoria website.
Pedestrian
- Ellesmere Parade walking and cycling path closed at times south of Davies Street from mid-July.
- Macleod Station pedestrian rail crossing closed and station access ramp changes at times from Thursday 16 July to Monday 20 July. Detours in place and free accessible taxi available, please follow signage in the area.
