We’re removing the Ruthven Street, Macleod level crossing by building a rail bridge over the road. Removing the level crossing will improve safety, reduce congestion and deliver more reliable travel times. Construction to build the new rail bridge is underway.

We’ll work along the rail corridor from Davies Street, Rosanna to Powley Parade, Watsonia in November.

We’ll also continue works to upgrade the Macleod College oval and we’ll install new kerbing on Powley Parade in November. Further works to formalise the current road rail access pad will take place in early 2027.

What we’re doing

  • Installing underground services and cabling, maintenance pits, and foundations to support new lighting, security cameras and electrical infrastructure.
  • Upgrade works at Macleod College oval, including installing new drainage and irrigation systems.
  • Installing new kerbing on Powley Parade to support formalising the Rail Road Access Pad.
  • Traffic management in the area, with temporary lane and walking and cycling path closures.
  • Increased construction vehicles on local streets including Somers and Melrose avenues while we upgrade the Macleod College oval.
  • Increased noise, dust and lighting. Water carts will be used to mitigate dust.

What to expect

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule – however, dates and times are subject to change.

Directly impacted residents will be notified in advance.

Changes to the way you travel

  • Changed traffic conditions on Powley Parade, Watsonia betwen Richards Avenue and Wattle Drive on Monday 16 November and Tuesday 17 November, from 7am to 6pm each day. Traffic management in place.
