We’re removing the dangerous and congested Ruthven Street, Macleod level crossing by building a rail bridge over the road. Removing the level crossing will improve safety, reduce congestion and deliver more reliable travel times. Early works are underway and construction will start later this year.

We’ll continue works to install the new combined services route (CSR) under the ground along the rail corridor in September. The CSR is made up of pipes that hold the cables used for signalling, communications and power for the Hurstbridge Line. We’ll also continue site investigations and utility services works in the project area.

We’ll close a section of the Ellesmere Parade walking and cycling path between Invermay Grove and Davies Street, Rosanna to carry out CSR installation works from Monday 7 September to Monday 28 September.

Jemena will continue works to relocate power lines between Macleod Park oval and Chapman Street in late September, with lane closures and a road closure on Chapman Street during these works.

What we’re doing

  • Installing underground CSR
  • Accessing and relocating utility services
  • Relocating power lines between Macleod Park oval and Chapman Street
  • Site investigations and non-destructive digging in the project area, including at Macleod Park oval and Powley Parade, Watsonia.

What to expect

  • Temporary closure of Ellesmere Parade walking and cycling path and 12 on street car spaces on the eastern side of Ellesmere Parade between Invermay Grove and Davies Street. Pedestrian and bike rider detour in place, please see map below.
  • Temporary road and lane closures with traffic management in place on Chapman Street, Ruthven Street, McNamara Street and Ellesmere Parade
  • Work crews and monitoring equipment at Macleod Park oval
  • Non-destructive digging to locate services including at Powley Parade, Watsonia
  • Increased activity with machinery and work crews on site and in local streets
  • Increase in noise, dust and vibration with dust minimised by water carts.

Works will be completed during normal construction hours from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm, Saturdays.

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however, dates and times are subject to change.
