4 April 2024

Work is powering ahead to make the Lilydale Line level crossing free by 2024, a year ahead of schedule.

Construction is well underway to remove the remaining level crossings on the Lilydale Line at Dublin Road, Ringwood East, Coolstore Road, Croydon and Cave Hill Road, Lilydale.

In October 2022, we advised that Cardigan Road Reserve will be used by the Ringwood and Croydon level crossing removal projects from 2023, with works to be completed by 2024, a year ahead of schedule.

What to expect

As works are progressing on the Croydon level crossing removal project, we’ll continue carrying out a number of construction activities in Cardigan Road Reserve over the coming months from early April until late 2024, including:

  • building new station elements such as lift shafts
  • delivering rail infrastructure
  • steel fixing works
  • moving and storing material around the site
  • large machinery movements (for example excavators, cranes, trucks)
  • overnight loading and transportation of rail infrastructure, station elements and materials to and from the reserve to Croydon.

Local residents may experience:

  • increased truck movements and noise from trucks and other vehicles in the area during the day and some nights
  • an increase in construction noise, activity, and some dust, with vehicles, machinery and workers on site
  • targeted lighting for work areas, with measures in place to prevent significant light spill into nearby properties when out of hours works are required.

When we'll work

Construction works will take place from Monday to Saturday, 6am to 7pm, however some works will be required to be carried out on some Sundays between 7am and 5pm.

Some occasional night works will also be required and will be carried out between 7pm and 6am. Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.
