The Lilydale Line is level crossing free – a year ahead of schedule.
The dangerous and congested level crossing and roundabout at Coolstore Road, Croydon has been removed with trains now running along the new rail bridge and cars traveling along the new Kent Avenue to Lacey Street road connection.
The new Croydon Station is now open. We will continue work on the transport hub, car parks, and landscaping.
Upcoming 24/7 works in October
We’ll work around the clock in and around Croydon Station whilst trains aren’t running on the Lilydale Line from 9pm Friday 11 October until 3am Monday 14 October to carry out essential drainage works within the rail corridor and works within the station precinct.
Buses will replace trains on sections of the Lilydale Line from 8.30pm Friday 11 October until last service Sunday 13 October. Plan ahead and check the PTV website before you travel for information on disruptions.
Works taking place during October and November 2024
Pierson Drive
- Pierson Drive is currently closed until late November between Main Street and Railway Grove as road works continue. Access is maintained to Croydon Station, DDA parking and MTM staff parking. It will reopen when the bus interchange opens.
Railway Crescent and Croydon Road
- Vehicle access changes will be required at some locations along Railway Crescent to carry out drainage works, which may include temporary driveway and footpath closures.
- During this time the driveway of 1 Railway Crescent and the Coolstore Road driveway attached to 2 Croydon Road, will be unavailable.
- From Saturday 12 October to 25 October, one way access into Railway Crescent for properties between 1-7 will be via the laneway alongside the old fire station, 14 Croydon Road. Exiting out of Railway Crescent will be via Kitchener Road with impacted residents and businesses notified of this change of access. From 9 Railway Crescent 2 way access into and out of Railway Crescent will be maintained via Kitchener Road. We’ll be in touch with individual properties to discuss any specific impacts.
- From Wednesday 9 October for approximately 2 weeks mulch will be distributed into garden beds from a truck that will park against the rail side of Railway Crescent. Traffic management will be in place around this vehicle and medium levels of noise can be expected.
Eastern car park area and Coolstore Road
- Drainage works will continue within the site, adjacent to Railway Crescent and Coolstore Road, in preparation for the new station car park.
- From 7am Thursday 10 October to 5pm Saturday 26 October a localised road closure at the Coolstore Road and Main Street intersection will be required. Access into and out of Main Street, between Coolstore Road and Lacey Street will be via Main Street, Lacey Street and Kent Avenue.
Main Street between Coolstore Road and Lacey Street
- Drainage works and road reinstatement at the top of Main Street, between Coolstore Road and Lacey Street will commence 7am Thursday 31 October. This section of Main Street will be closed to vehicle access with pedestrian access to be maintained.
- We’ll be in touch with individual properties and businesses to discuss impacts during this time.
Kent Avenue, Croydon Road and Lacey Street
- Footpath and road reinstatement works, line marking, and light pole installation will take place until November. During this time some footpath and lane closures will be in place from 8pm until 5am.
- Please follow the direction of traffic management and signage
Wicklow Avenue
- Traffic management will be required at times to facilitate access to site. Lane closures will be in place at times.
- Footpath reinstatement day works on Wicklow Ave will continue during October.
- Works on the corner of Wicklow Avenue and Kent Avenue (outside Croydon Central) will take place from 7am Tuesday 22 October until 5pm Saturday 26 October. Pedestrian access to Kent Avenue will be via Croydon Central carpark.
Toorak Avenue
- Toorak Road at Wicklow Avenue will have lane closures until 5am Friday 11 October. Please follow the direction of traffic management and signage.
Croydon transport hub and bus interchange
- Night works will take place between 7pm, Friday 11 October and 3am Monday 14 October while the station is closed. The Devon Street site compound and laydown areas will be used during this period.
- Night works may be required at other times between 7pm and 7am to complete the new Croydon transport hub and interchange.
Devon Street
- Tank installation and drainage day works will commence in Devon Street from 7am Tuesday 22 October until late December. Devon Street will be closed to vehicle access between Pierson Drive and Railway Grove during these works. Pedestrian access along Devon Street will be maintained.
- Vehicle access to the multi-level carpark will be maintained from the entrance off Pierson Drive via Devon Street.
- We’ll be in touch with individual properties and businesses to discuss any impacts and arrangements for parking.
Railway Grove
- We will be building the retention basin on Railway Grove from 21 October until late November.
- Railway Grove will be closed during this time, with access into the multi-deck carpark from Pierson Drive via Devon Street.
Croydon station
- From 8.30pm Friday 11 October until 3am Monday 14 October Croydon station will be closed with buses replacing trains. Works will take place along the rail corridor and within the station precinct.
Lincoln Road
- From 7am Thursday 10 October until 3am Monday 14 October, rail equipment will be delivered and access the rail corridor via the Lincoln Road Service Road rail access area.
Neil Street
- From 7am Monday 7 October until 5pm Thursday 10 October there will be day works while we install underground cables and carry out drainage works in Neil Street. 24/7 works will commence from Friday 11 October until 3am Monday 14 October.
- Niel Street will be closed at the bend where works are taking place, from 9pm Friday 11 October until 7pm Saturday 12 October. There will also be some footpath and on street parking closures. We’ll be in touch with individual properties to discuss any specific impacts.
Surrey Road rail pedestrian crossing
- Due to works in and around Croydon Station and the rail line, the Surrey Road pedestrian crossing will be closed from 8.30 pm Friday 11 October until 3am Monday 14 October.
What to expect
- There will be changes to the way you travel around the area while we work. Please take care when moving around the works areas and pay attention to pedestrian detour signage in place.
- Traffic management will be in place to assist vehicles and pedestrians around works areas throughout these works. Some minor delays may be expected at times whilst heavy machinery and vehicle movements take place.
- These works may include delivery of materials, plant and machinery, utility relocations, road asphalting, reinstatement and other work activities. We will provide detail of these works to impacted residents and businesses.
- You may experience moderate noise from machinery such as piling rigs, cranes, rollers, and excavators.
Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.
