15 March 2024

We’re removing the congested Coolstore Road, Croydon level crossing and building a new Croydon Station as part of works to make the Lilydale Line level crossing free in 2024.

We’re also building new road connections and replacing the Coolstore Road roundabout with a signalised intersection, linking Croydon’s retail precincts and making it easier for locals to get where they need to go.

Upcoming works

From Thursday, 4 April until mid-May, drainage relocation works need to take place on Main Street and Lacey Street so we can construct the new road connection between Kent Avenue and Lacey Street.

While we work, there will be times when some sections and lanes in Main Street and the northern end of Lacey Street will be closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained, with traffic detours and management in place. Traffic will be maintained in one direction on Main Street during this time.

From Monday 15 April, Coolstore Road will close at the level crossing while we deliver and install the beams that will form the new rail bridge. See the below map for detour information.

The new road connections linking Croydon’s town centre will open by spring.

When works are complete, Coolstore Road will continue into Main Street, and a signalised intersection will provide direct links between Wicklow Avenue, Croydon Road, Kent Avenue and Lacey Street. A new intersection at Wicklow Avenue and Devon Street will also provide another way to cross the rail line.

The Coolstore Road level crossing will be gone and the Lilydale line level crossing free in 2024 – a year ahead of schedule.
