The Lilydale Line is level crossing free – a year ahead of schedule.

The dangerous and congested level crossing and roundabout at Coolstore Road, Croydon has been removed with trains running along the new rail bridge and cars traveling along the new Kent Avenue to Lacey Street road connection.

Some finishing works including landscaping, removing barriers and portable sheds and reinstating footpaths and roads will continue across the precinct through autumn.

Works taking place in April and May

Main Street and Devon Street intersection

From Monday 28 April to Friday 9 May there will no vehicle access from Mount Dandenong Road into Main Street and into Devon Street, while we relocate a section of gas pipes and reinstate the kerb. Detour via Springfield Road or Wicklow Avenue.

  • Multi-deck carpark access from Wicklow Avenue and Railway Grove.
  • There will be some localised pedestrian impacts.
  • The community are encouraged to follow traffic management signage in place during these works.
  • We’ll be in touch with individual properties and businesses to discuss any specific impacts and arrangements for parking.

Wicklow Avenue

From mid May, there will traffic speed restrictions and small pedestrian detours around some sections of footpath works.

Croydon project area

Until late May, ongoing pit inspections and reinstatement day works will continue around the Croydon project area.

  • Intermittent traffic management and associated short terms footpath closures.
  • Pedestrian detours in place with signage to direct pedestrians around the area.

What to expect

  • There will be some changes to the way you travel around the area while we work. Please take care when moving around the works areas and pay attention to pedestrian detour signs in place.
  • Traffic management will be in place to assist vehicles and pedestrians around works areas throughout these works. Some minor delays may be expected at times whilst heavy machinery and vehicle movements take place.
  • These works may include delivery of materials, plant and machinery, utility relocations, road asphalting, reinstatement, and other work activities.
  • You may experience moderate noise from machinery such as excavators.

Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.
