The Lilydale Line is level crossing free – a year ahead of schedule.

The dangerous and congested level crossing and roundabout at Coolstore Road, Croydon has been removed with trains running along the new rail bridge and cars traveling along the new Kent Avenue to Lacey Street road connection.

Some finishing works including landscaping, removing barriers and portable sheds, and reinstating footpaths and roads, will continue across the precinct into winter 2025.

Works taking place in July

Road

Main Street and Devon Street intersection

From 7am, Saturday 5 July to 5pm, Sunday 20 July there will no vehicle access from Mount Dandenong Road into Main Street and into Devon Street, while we relocate a section of gas pipes and reinstate the kerb.

  • There will be some localised pedestrian impacts, please follow traffic management signage in place during these works.
  • We’ll be in touch with individual properties and businesses to discuss any specific impacts and arrangements for parking.
  • No vehicle access from Mount Dandenong Road into Main Street, Croydon. Vehicle detour off Mount Dandenong Road via Springfield Road or Wicklow Avenue.
  • No vehicle access into Devon Street from Main Street.
  • Multi-deck carpark access from Wicklow Avenue and Railway Grove.

Bus

Bus routes 664, 688, 690, 737, 967

Bus routes from both directions will temporarily not service selected bus stops from first service, Saturday 5 July to 5pm, Sunday 20 July.

Bus stops that will not be serviced:

  • Main Street/Devon Street (664 to Knox City SC, 688 to Upper Ferntree Gully, 690 to Boronia, 737 to Monash University, 967 to Glen Waverley Station)
  • Mt Dandenong Road/Main Street (664 to Chirnside Park SC, 688/690/737 to Croydon, 967 to Croydon Station)
  • Anzac Street/Mt Dandenong Road (664 to Chirnside Park SC, 967 to Croydon Station)
  • Lusher Road/Mt Dandenong Road (664 to Knox City SC)
  • Civic Square/Mt Dandenong Road (688 to Upper Ferntree Gully, 690 to Boronia, 737 to Monash University, 967 to Glen Waverley Station)
  • Arndale Shopping Centre/Mt Dandenong Road (688/690/737 to Croydon)
  • Norton Road/Mt Dandenong Road (688 to Croydon/Upper Ferntree Gully, 690 to Boronia/Croydon, 737 to Croydon/Monash University, 967 to Glen Waverley Station)

Passengers are advised to use alternative bus stops. Visit the PTV website to plan your journey.

What to expect

  • There will be some changes to the way you travel around the area while we work. Please take care when moving around the works areas and pay attention to pedestrian detour signs in place.
  • Traffic management will be in place to assist vehicles and pedestrians around works areas throughout these works. Some minor delays may be expected at times whilst heavy machinery and vehicle movements take place.
  • These works may include delivery of materials, plant and machinery, utility relocations, road asphalting, reinstatement, and other work activities.
  • You may experience moderate noise from machinery such as excavators.

Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.
