The Lilydale Line is level crossing free – a year ahead of schedule.
The dangerous and congested level crossing and roundabout at Coolstore Road, Croydon has been removed with trains now running along the new rail bridge and cars traveling along the new Kent Avenue to Lacey Street road connection.
The new Croydon Bus Interchange is now open, along with the central station carpark which provides 73 car spaces. Works are continuing on the remaining car parks, landscaping, drainage and final road works across the precinct to be completed in early 2025.
Works will take a short break over the holiday period from Friday 20 December to Tuesday 14 January.
Works taking place in December 2024 and January 2025
Pierson Drive
- We will be working on road reinstatement near Railway Grove and Pierson Drive until the morning of Monday 3 February.
- Bus access is maintained to Croydon Station bus interchange. Pedestrian access will have some localised footpath impacts.
- Railway Grove remains closed with traffic management.
Devon Street, Railway Grove and Main Street
- We will continue with asphalting and drainage tie-in works from Devon Street to Main Street until mid-February.
- Devon Street will be closed to vehicle access between Pierson Drive and Railway Grove until the morning of Monday 3 February.
- Devon Street will open from Railway Grove through to Wicklow Avenue from mid-morning Monday 3 February.
- From Monday 3 February for one week, there will be a lane closure on Main Street between Mount Dandenong Road and Devon Street. Detours will be in place via Wicklow Avenue and Springfield Avenue
- There will be some localised pedestrian impacts.
- This work will be carried out in stages to minimise impacts. The community are encouraged to follow traffic management signage in place during these works.
- We’ll be in touch with individual properties and businesses to discuss any specific impacts and arrangements for parking.
Croydon bus interchange and central station carpark
- We will be working at night on drainage at the bus interchange until mid-February. During the day we will work in the central station carpark.
Railway Crescent to Kitchener Road
- Ongoing pit drainage works opposite Kitchener Avenue until mid-February.
1 to 20 Railway Crescent
- Day works will take place with road/driveway access maintained under traffic management daily from 6am – 7pm until Friday 7 February.
- Night roadworks will commence from 7pm Friday 7 February until 7am Saturday 8 February with no road or driveway access between 1-20 Railway Crescent.
- Alternative parking beyond 20 Railway Crescent, Kitchener Road, Joffre Street, Surrey Road West, carparks off Lacey Street.
- Entry and exit to the carpark at 1 Railway Crescent will continue via the CFA driveway off Croydon Road.
Croydon Road slip road
- Croydon Road slip road will be closed until mid-February, while we continue road works and build the new shared user path.
- Alternative customer parking is available in front of the CFA station garage doors.
Eastern carpark area Coolstore Road
- Drainage works and road asphalting will continue within the site, adjacent to Railway Crescent and Coolstore Road. The new station car park will open on Friday 14 February.
Kent Avenue, Croydon Road, Lacey Street and Main Street
- Footpath and kerb reinstatement works will take place at these intersections until mid February.
- Please follow the directions of traffic management and signage.
- We’ll be in touch with individual businesses to discuss any specific impacts.
Wicklow Avenue and Toorak Avenue
- Until mid-February, footpath reinstatement on Wicklow will continue between Platter Pantry and to the main entrance of Croydon Central.
- There will also be drainage works opposite Alto Avenue until mid-February.
Gallipoli Parade
- Drainage and landscaping works will continue until mid February.
Mount View Street
- We will continue to access the construction site via Mount View Street until mid February.
What to expect
- Please take care when moving around the works area.
- Driveway access will not be possible at varying times during these works.
- There will be changes to the way you travel around the area while we work. Please take care when moving around the works areas and pay attention to pedestrian detour signage in place.
- Traffic management will be in place to assist vehicles and pedestrians around works areas throughout these works. Some minor delays may be expected at times whilst heavy machinery and vehicle movements take place.
- These works may include delivery of materials, plant and machinery, utility relocations, road asphalting, reinstatement and other work activities. We will provide detail of these works to impacted residents and businesses.
- Some weekend and night works will be required at different times within this period
- You may experience moderate noise from machinery such as piling rigs, cranes, rollers, and excavators.
Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.
