Work is powering ahead to make the Lilydale Line level crossing free by 2024, a year ahead of schedule.

Construction is well underway to remove the congested level crossing and roundabout by elevating the rail line, building a new Croydon Station and transport hub, and creating new road connections to link Croydon’s town centre.

What we're doing

Following the construction of piers and crossheads in the rail corridor, bridge beams will be installed. These beams form the ‘U-trough' that trains will travel in on the new structure. The next section of these works will take place on Railway Crescent.

To facilitate bridge beam installation large machinery will need to exit Railway Crescent via Surrey Road.

On-street parking on the northern side of Surrey Road between Croydon Road and Railway Crescent (adjacent Silcock Reserve) will be temporarily removed to enable safe movements of heavy machinery. Please see map overleaf.

The parking will be temporarily closed day and night during the following periods:

  • 5 May – 17 May
  • 31 May – 2 June
  • 6 June – 8 June

What to expect

  • Signage will be installed to make the parking changes clear.
  • There will be an increase in heavy vehicle movements on Surrey Road while this work takes place.

Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.
