2 April 2024

Work is powering ahead to make the Lilydale Line level crossing free by 2024, a year ahead of schedule.

Works are ramping up to remove the congested level crossing and roundabout by elevating the rail line, building a new Croydon Station and transport hub, and creating new road links to connect Croydon’s town centre.

What we’re doing

Over the last few months, our crews have been working in the northern car park at Croydon Station to build the new rail bridge and install the new station buildings.

From Thursday 4 April until late May, overnight works will be carried out in the Croydon Station northern car park area.

Works will involve:

  • installing station services
  • carrying out concrete pours
  • delivering and installing bridge beams
  • building bridge foundations (including concrete pours to construct piers and crossheads)
  • large machinery movements (for example, cranes)
  • concrete and steel fixing works
  • delivering and installing new station buildings and elements
  • earthworks and service investigations.

What to expect

  • There will be some construction noise from machinery. There will also be an increase in workers, vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Construction vehicles will access the northern car park via Wicklow Avenue.
  • There will be intermittent traffic impacts including shuttle-flow traffic management with minor delays on Wicklow Avenue while large concrete bridge beams are being delivered to site.
  • Traffic management staff will be in place throughout the works to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians.
  • During night works, targeted lighting will be used for work areas with measures in place to prevent light spill.
  • Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the works.
  • Respite measures will be available for impacted residents while the works take place. Eligible residents will receive specific information about available respite.

When we’ll work

Work will take place during standard daytime construction hours and also between 7pm and 6am each night from Monday to Saturday.

Some occasional Sunday works may be undertaken throughout this period.

Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.

Impacted residents will be contacted individually to discuss how we can minimise the impact of this night work.
