9 April 2024

Work is powering ahead to make the Lilydale Line level crossing free by 2024, a year ahead of schedule.

Works are ramping up to remove the congested level crossing and roundabout by elevating the rail line, building a new Croydon Station and transport hub, and creating new road links to connect Croydon’s town centre.

What we're doing

As part of works to build the new elevated rail line and create new road connections, each night from Sunday 21 April to 7am Thursday 25 April, there will be a full road closure on Wicklow Avenue between Alto Avenue and Toorak Avenue.

The closure is required so we can install new drainage services and traffic signals. Traffic management will be in place to assist with vehicle movements and access to properties and businesses during these works.

What to expect

  • A full road closure will be in place between Alto Avenue and Toorak Avenue each night and access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the works.
  • Access to properties located at 55 and 57 Wicklow Avenue will be provided via traffic management.
  • The driveway into the Croydon Central car park (adjacent to Platter Pantry) will be closed at night during this time. The main entrance will remain open.
  • Access to properties located on Ellesmere Avenue and Toorak Avenue will be via Alto Avenue during this period.
  • Pedestrian access around the works area will be maintained but may change at times throughout the works. For your safety, please observe signage and directions from traffic control staff.
  • During night works, targeted lighting will be used for work areas with measures in place to prevent light spill.

Respite measures will be available for impacted residents while the works take place. Eligible residents will receive separate information about respite measures available.

When we'll work

Work will take place day and night during this period, however the road closure will only be in place between  7pm and 6am each night. Normal construction will take place during the day between 7am and 6pm.

Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control. Impacted residents will be contacted individually to discuss how we can minimise the impact of this night work.
