What to expect during construction

The brand-new Keon Park Station will be built in a new location on the south side of Keon Parade to improve access to the station, connections to buses, local shops, cafes and eateries. Removing this crossing will improve safety and make travel times more reliable for the tens of thousands of drivers that use Keon Parade each day. Major construction starts in 2023. In 2025 Keon Parade will be boom gate free and trains will run on the rail bridge to the modern Keon Park Station. To build the rail bridge, specialised machinery is needed. As with any major construction, this can result in noise and vibration.

While we build the new rail bridge, we have management plans in place to manage the impacts of any:

• noise and vibration
• light spill during nightworks
• dust and mud
• traffic congestion.

Reducing noise and vibration

Noise and vibration management is a critical part of our planning process before construction. To minimise potential noise and vibration impacts to the community, we'll:

• work within approved construction times generally from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays
• use quieter reversing alarms on our vehicles and machines where appropriate
• keep our machines in good working order
• schedule noisy works to occur during the day.

At times, we'll have to work during the night. When 24 hour work is planned, we’ll provide you with plenty of notice.

During construction, we'll monitor noise and vibration levels to make sure they are within the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) guidelines. You can find out more about the guidelines at epa.vic.gov.au

Temporary lighting during night works

At times, we’ll need to light up an area for everyone’s safety. To minimise the potential for any temporary spill from lighting towers, we'll:

• keep the amount of light to a minimum for safe access or construction
• direct light towers away from homes, businesses and public buildings.

Dust and mud management

We'll use a range of measures to minimise dust and mud from construction activities, including:

• using water carts to spray the exposed area on hot and windy days
• planning earthworks on less windy days where possible
• staging works to minimise exposed areas
• reducing the speed of construction vehicles and using crushed rock on long-term construction access roads
• covering truck loads and stockpiles. Throughout the project we'll monitor air quality as required.

Keeping traffic moving

Our works take place on and next to key arterial and local roads. This may lead to occasional changes to how you drive, cycle and walk through the area and potentially cause delays. While these works are happening, we'll have traffic management in place. At times we may impact access to properties to carry out work safely. The team will directly contact affected residents and business owners. We will always maintain access for emergency services.
