A pedestrian using the new shared use path
Major works complete at Brunt Road, Beaconsfield
The dangerous and congested level crossing at Brunt Road, Beaconsfield is gone for good, one year ahead of schedule.
The new Brunt Road bridge opened to traffic in April, with major works now complete.
Removing this level crossing has improved journeys for the 8,400 drivers passing through each day and allowing for more trains to run more often.
We've also built a new footpath and shared use path across the road bridge, providing a direct link to local schools, shops and services on either side of the rail line.
The removal of this dangerous and congested level crossing means the Pakenham Line is one step closer to being level crossing free by 2025.
Over the coming months, we will complete final footpath works, pack up our site offices and move out of the area.
Thank you to the local community for their patience throughout this project.
Project benefits
- Reducing congestion for the 8400 vehicles that pass through the level crossing each day.

What we’ve been up to on site
Over the past few months, our crews have been putting the finishing touches on the new road bridge including:

End of project celebration
We recently celebrated the completion of the Brunt Road Level Crossing Removal Project.
The event gave us a chance to thank the Beaconsfield and Officer communities for their patience throughout construction.
Locals enjoyed a range of activities, including our fun-size diggers and cranes, building blocks and interactive learning stations.

Spotted Gum goes home to Beaconsfield
As part of our commitment to sustainability, the Level Crossing Removal Project looked for a way to repurpose trees that could not be retained.
We partnered with CERES Fair Wood, a not-for-profit social enterprise that buys and sells farm-forested, agroforestry and salvaged timber, with 100% of profits reinvested back into the community including the CERES environmental education programs.
The project donated seven large Spotted Gum and Southern Mahogany logs to CERES Fair Wood, one of which
has been made into a park bench, purchased by the project and donated back to Cardinia Shire Council to be installed in Dodson Reserve – where the tree originally grew.
The other logs donated to CERES Fair Wood will be made into furniture and timber products that will be sold through its social enterprise business.
