23 April 2024

The countdown is on for the new East Pakenham Station to open!

Works are progressing to remove all 3 level crossings in Pakenham, with the rail bridge already installed over McGregor Road, Main Street and Racecourse Road and new stations at Pakenham and East Pakenham are taking shape.

What to expect

  • Construction vehicles and machinery movement
  • Increased noise, dust, and vibration
  • Additional lighting
  • Traffic management and detour signage
  • Impacted residents and businesses will be notified closer to the date

From April to early June, the project will undertake the following works:

24-hour works

We will work night and day within the rail corridor between Berwick and Nar Nar Goon stations from Friday 17 May until early June.

While trains are not running, we will complete the following works:

  • East Pakenham Station finishing works including Sharnet Circuit pedestrian underpass
  • commissioning and connecting the new tracks into the rail bridge
  • undertake signalling and overhead works including removing boom gates at each level crossing

Where possible, we will minimise noise at night, prioritising any heavy demolition or noisy works during the day.

Changes to the way you travel

Buses replace trains

  • Buses replace trains on the Pakenham Line between Berwick and Pakenham from 10pm, Friday 17 May to Friday 31 May and between Dandenong and Pakenham from Saturday 1 June to early June.

Plan your journey here or on the PTV app.

Road closures

  • In early May, there will be traffic changes on Ryan Road while we complete final surfacing works. More details will be provided to directly impacted residents closer to the date.
  • McGregor Road will be closed at the level crossing for boom gate removal from 7am, Sunday 19 May to 7am, Monday 20 May.
  • Racecourse Road will be closed at the level crossing for boom gate removal from 7am, Monday 20 May to 7am, Tuesday 21 May.
  • Main Street will be closed at the level crossing for boom gate removal from 7am, Tuesday 21 May to 7am, Wednesday 22 May.

Traffic management and detours are in place for the safety of the community and workforce. Follow the signage and instructions when travelling around the project area.

At times, we will temporarily close roads, lanes, footpaths, and car parks.

Due to an increase in construction activity, there will be more truck movements and traffic in the area.

Every effort will be made to complete these works on schedule; however, these are subject to change.

Bormar Drive

In late April, a rail maintenance access path will be constructed connecting Bormar Drive to establish a safe access location to the rail corridor for ongoing rail maintenance. There will be an increase in trucks through the area while we complete these works.
