Traffic changes

We’re making the Pakenham Line level crossing free by 2025, removing 22 dangerous level crossings to improve safety, reduce congestion and run more trains more often.

The dangerous level crossing at Progress St, Dandenong South has now been permanently closed and a new road bridge connecting Progress Street to Fowler Road completed, ultimately providing businesses with safer access to the South Gippsland Highway.

During July, works continue to upgrade and signalise the Fowler Road and South Gippsland Highway intersection. Whilst we complete these works, how you travel to and from the Dandenong South industrial precinct will change.

What to expect

From 12am, Saturday 5 July until Monday 21 July:

  • South Gippsland Highway will be closed in both directions between Dandenong Bypass and Princes Highway.
  • Fowler Road will be closed at the intersection with South Gippsland Highway, with alternate access provided via Hallam Valley Road, Nathan Road and Progress Street.
  • Motorists are requested to plan ahead and expect delays of up to 30 minutes during morning and afternoon peaks.

Planning your journey

Depending on your route and time of day, travel times will vary as you enter and exit the Dandenong South industrial precinct. To assist with your delivery planning, we have provided expected delay times for the morning (8am-9am) and afternoon (4pm-5pm) peaks.
